Lifestyle cruises are sailings reserved for couples in the swinger and open-minded community. Instead of sharing a ship with families, guests travel with hundreds or even thousands of like-minded couples, and the onboard programme is built around themed parties, social events, workshops and designated clothing-optional spaces. The two best-known operators are Bliss Cruise and Desire Cruises.

The main operators

Bliss Cruise runs couples-only lifestyle cruises, typically as charters on large ships from major lines; its recent and upcoming sailings have included Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships in the Caribbean, from ports such as Tampa. Itineraries, themes and ships change every year, so check the operator's current sailings.

Desire Cruises is run by Original Group, the company behind the couples-only Desire resorts and Temptation Cancun Resort in Mexico. Since its first voyages in the late 2010s, it has sailed itineraries in the Mediterranean, the Adriatic, the Caribbean and Asia on premium ships, with clothing-optional areas, theme nights, sensual workshops and a private "playroom" for couples. Current and planned voyages are listed on its official site.

How a lifestyle cruise works

  • Couples only. Singles cannot book. Travel guides report that lifestyle cruises generally require guests to be at least 21.
  • Charter model. When an operator charters a whole ship, everyone on board is part of the event; on partial charters, the group has reserved areas. Check which model applies to your sailing.
  • Clothing-optional where designated. Nudity is typically allowed on specified decks and pool areas at sea, while dining rooms, public ports and some venues require clothing. When the ship is docked, passengers dress.
  • Programme. Days mix pool parties, games and workshops; evenings feature themed parties and entertainment. Private cabins and designated play spaces are where intimate activity belongs.
  • Nothing is compulsory. Many couples go to relax, socialise and enjoy the atmosphere without meeting anyone.

Who it suits

  • Established lifestyle couples who want a week surrounded by like-minded people with the logistics taken care of.
  • Curious couples who want to explore at their own pace in an environment where open-mindedness is the norm.
  • Couples who enjoy cruising and want a very different kind of voyage.

It does not suit naturists looking for a non-sexual environment; for that, see our guide to naturist cruises.

Booking tips

  • Book early: popular sailings sell out, and cabin choice matters on a themed trip.
  • Read the operator's code of conduct, dress-code calendar and cancellation terms carefully.
  • Buy travel insurance that covers cruise disruption and medical care abroad.
  • Check passport and visa requirements for every port of call.
  • Consent is explicit, sober and ongoing. A wristband, outfit or cabin sign is never consent on its own; ask, and respect a no instantly.
  • No photos of other guests. Operators restrict photography, and many guests protect their identities carefully.
  • Respect the crew. Crew members are working and are never part of the fun.
  • Respect port cultures. Many ports are conservative; dress and behave accordingly ashore.
  • Practise safer sex and follow the operator's health guidance.

While on board, the ship's flag-state law, the cruise line's rules and the charter operator's code of conduct apply; in port, local law applies. Public nudity or sexual behaviour ashore can lead to arrest. Nudity on board is limited to the areas and times the operator designates.
