Hidden Beach Resort Au Naturel is a small, adults-only nude resort on Kantenah Bay, on the stretch of the Riviera Maya between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It is operated by Karisma Hotels & Resorts and has around 42 suites, which makes it tiny by local standards. The concept is simple: gourmet all-inclusive dining, a beachfront pool, a lazy river, a large hot tub and a private beach, all of it clothing-optional. It is regularly described as one of the few upscale nude resorts in Mexico.
For our readers, the key point is what Hidden Beach is not. It is a naturist resort, not a lifestyle resort. Its published rules say that intimate touching and explicit sexual behaviour in public areas are not permitted and that sexual advances towards other guests will not be tolerated. Lifestyle couples are welcome as guests like anyone else, but they should look elsewhere if they want a swinger atmosphere.
Who it suits
- Naturist couples and adults who want a quiet, high-end nude holiday on the Caribbean.
- First-time naturists, because a small resort with polite, experienced guests is a comfortable place to try social nudity.
- Lifestyle couples who want a relaxing break from the party scene, as long as they respect the resort's rules.
Couples looking for an openly sensual, couples-only resort should compare the Desire resorts in Puerto Morelos.
What the resort is like
The suites include a bathroom with a hot tub for two and a stocked minibar, and dining is covered by Karisma's "Gourmet Inclusive" programme. Guests are free to be nude everywhere on the property, including the beach, pool and restaurants, subject to the resort's hygiene rules such as sitting on a towel. The resort neighbours a clothed Karisma property, El Dorado Seaside Suites. Hidden Beach guests can use some of its facilities but must be fully dressed while they are there.
Best time to go
The dry season from November to April is the most popular time and has the most reliable weather. Summer is hot and humid, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, and sargassum seaweed has affected Riviera Maya beaches in spring and summer in recent years. Conditions vary a lot from week to week, so check current reports and ask the resort how it manages its beach.
Getting there
Cancún International Airport (CUN) is the gateway. The drive south along Highway 307 to Kantenah usually takes around 75 to 90 minutes. Book a transfer with the resort or a reputable transport company rather than accepting offers inside the terminal. Playa del Carmen, Akumal and Tulum are all within easy reach for day trips.
Resort rules and etiquette
- No cameras. Photography, video recording and webcam broadcasting are prohibited, and the rule explicitly includes phones. The only exceptions are authorised resort marketing shoots with signed releases.
- No public sexual behaviour. Keep intimacy for your suite.
- Towel etiquette. Always sit on your own towel on loungers and chairs.
- Cover up next door. Dress fully when visiting the neighbouring clothed resort.
Legal notes
Nudity on Mexican public beaches is generally not accepted, with the notable exception of legally nude Playa Zipolite in Oaxaca. Hidden Beach's beach is part of the resort's private, clothing-optional area; the resort explains where its boundaries lie. Minimum age is 18 at check-in.
Safety and consent
Naturist resorts depend on trust. Staring, commenting on bodies or approaching people with sexual intent breaks that trust and can lead to removal from the resort. Protect your skin with reef-safe sunscreen, especially on areas that rarely see the sun, and drink plenty of water in the heat.
