Caliente Club & Resorts is a clothing-optional resort in Land O' Lakes, in Pasco County, about 25 miles north of downtown Tampa. It opened in the early 2000s (Florida Trend dates the opening to 2002) and represents a newer, more upscale style of nudist resort: hotel studios, casitas and condominiums, several pools and bars, a large hot tub, a full-service spa, a fitness room, tennis courts and nightclubs, all inside a community where many residents own homes. The entire resort is clothing-optional, and guests must be 21 or older to check in.
Caliente sits in the heart of Pasco County's cluster of nudist resorts, which the press has long called the nudist capital of the United States. Read our Pasco County guide for the wider scene.
Who it suits
- Naturist couples who prefer resort comforts, restaurants and entertainment over rustic camping.
- Lifestyle couples looking for a sociable, adults-only, clothing-optional base with an active party calendar.
- Day visitors from Tampa Bay, as the resort sells day memberships; check current rules and prices on its site.
Unaccompanied single men are not allowed to book rooms, so single men usually visit only as guests of a couple, if at all. Families with children should look at traditional family clubs such as Cypress Cove or Lake Como instead.
What the atmosphere is like
Caliente is livelier than a classic family nudist park. Days revolve around the pools, the spa and sports; evenings bring themed events, dancing and live entertainment. Many guests are naturists who enjoy the social side, and many are lifestyle couples, so expect a flirtatious, open-minded crowd. Resort rules still apply to shared areas, and staff enforce them.
Tips for first-time visitors
- Read the rules before you arrive, including the policies on guests, day memberships and photography.
- Pack a few outfits for themed evenings; nudity is common by day, but evening events often have dress themes.
- Start slowly. Spend the first day by the pool getting a feel for the atmosphere before joining the busier events.
- Talk to staff and regulars; they are usually happy to explain how things work.
Best time to go
Florida's cooler, drier months from October to April are the most comfortable, and winter is the high season as visitors escape the northern cold. Summer is hot and humid, with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, and hurricane season runs from June to November. Special event weekends fill the resort quickly, so book early.
Getting there
Tampa International Airport (TPA) is about 30 to 40 minutes away by road. The resort is on Gran Via Boulevard in Land O' Lakes, close to US Highway 41 and the Suncoast Parkway. A car is essential; public transport in the area is limited.
Etiquette and rules
- Towels on every seat, poolside and indoors.
- No photography of other guests without their explicit consent; follow the resort's camera rules.
- Respect dress codes for events. Some evenings and venues set their own themes or dress requirements.
- Keep intimacy private. Public sexual behaviour is not permitted in shared areas, and Florida law prohibits lewd conduct in public places.
Safety and consent
In any lifestyle-friendly setting, consent must be explicit, sober and ongoing. Couples should agree boundaries in advance and check in with each other during the evening. Pace yourself at the bars, drink water in the Florida heat and use high-factor sunscreen, especially on skin that is rarely exposed.
